CHANDIGARH: Starting Tuesday, the owners of Tata Nano would be getting calls from the company to make their vehicle safer.
Contrary to reports that the car company is recalling its little creation because of security concerns, it is actually providing additional protection in the exhaust and electrical system. The catalytic converter will be covered to protect it from catching fire.
The company will also put fuse in the electric components, which will prevent it from short circuits.
The perception about Tata Nano being unsafe got into the minds of the buyers after few incidents of car catching fire at various places in the country.
According to company sources these security features can be added in a vehicle within one working day and the company would be offering this service free of cost as per their customers’ wish. The company, through its dealerships, would communicate customers throughout the country about this facility.
At the end of October 2010, Tata Motors has delivered over 70,000 Tata Nano cars since its launch in March 2009. The domestic car market in October this year put up great sales figure and saw a noticeable growth by 22.32 per cent in the passenger car segment, which accounted to 24,478 units sold. However, in October, 3,065 Tata Nano were sold in the passenger car segment showing a paltry growth of 2 per cent.
Meanwhile, official spokesperson of the company said that Tata Nano is a safe car with a robust design and this has been re-established through a second analysis, conducted during the months of September and October 2010. Company had earlier also done such an investigation in May 2010.
The investigation, by a team of internal and international experts, has concluded that the reasons for the incidents in few Tata Nano cars are specific to the cars, which faced such incidents.
